Greetings, visitors of my blog!
My name is Reinaldo and this is my blog concerning the analyses of historical battles! The intent of this blog is to examine the battles of history in the hopes of attaining a better understanding of military thought, strategy, and tactics.
Though essentially historically based, we will be focusing less on historical context (compared with other commentaries) and more on the engagements themselves. Thus, whatever historical background that is provided will relate strictly to the battle, as opposed to the war or campaign in which the battle was fought.
The analysis of each battle will consist of - each commander's intent and perspective, strengths and weaknesses of both sides, means that the victor was dependent upon for success, and factors that lead to the defeat of the vanquished.
After examining each battle, further commentary will be provided (e.g. - what could have the defeated done to mitigate or even avoid their loss or what could have gone differently for the victor).
To improve our understanding of the battles, images and diagrams will be posted, usually in the form of maps showing the positioning of forces, terrain features of significance, etc.
As this blog focuses on analysis, discussion is most welcome! Though contextual historical knowledge is recommended, I will do my best to help you, the reader, understand each battle in its background so that you may be able to discuss the engagements in a somewhat scientific manner.
Lastly, this is my first attempt at blogging, so please go easy on me! Hopefully we both can benefit from these discussions!
